What to Give the Quilter in Your Life

Do you have a handmade quilt somewhere in your home, made by a quilter in your life? A scrappy log cabin quilt thrown over the couch? Or a precious baby quilt carefully stored? Return the love by giving your quilter a year of Quiltacy: a place to record the story behind every quilt they've made.

Christmas morning 2024: Marsali and Cheryl, her mother, each surprised the other with a homemade quilt.

Quiltacy started as a gift

I built Quiltacy for my mom, Cheryl, who has been quilting her whole life. She's a talented artist who has made more than a hundred quilts.

She doesn't use patterns; instead, she designs and redesigns as she goes, guided by the fabrics and colors on her design wall. She has an enviable grasp of color and can make even the most “unique” fabric truly shine.

I created Quiltacy so that my mom could keep a record of all these details about her quilts. I want to know what inspired each one, where she found that one wacky fabric print, and how long it took her to sew all of the Y seams in her diamonds quilt!

Luckily, you don't have to build an app to give your quilter the same thing.

Give the gift of a lasting archive

In Quiltacy, each project gets its own record with photos, the pattern and designer, the fabrics, the dates, who it was made for, and a dedicated space for the quilt's story. Over a year, those pages add up to an archive that can be printed as a PDF, shared with family, and passed down. A gift of Quiltacy says, “Your creative work matters to me, and I want to remember it.”

Quilts start conversations

Quiltacy can become a wonderful conversation starter about your loved one's hobby. Ask them about how they designed your favorite quilt, or ask them about their biggest ever quilting mistake. Some of the best stories only come out when someone asks.

Offer to help photograph the ones stored in closets, or track down a photo of a quilt they gave away years ago. Or, have a spontaneous photo shoot of people you love wrapped up in quilts!

You can also follow along on your loved one's quilting journey: with a Premium subscription, your quilter can turn on and share a link to their Public Gallery. You can check out their most recent creation or current work in progress, from anywhere.

How gifting works

  • Choose a year of Standard or Premium and write a personal note. Standard is $29.90 and Premium is $49.90, the same as our annual plans.
  • Pick how to deliver your gift. We can email the gift on the day you choose (Christmas Day, a birthday, Mother's Day), or you can print a gift certificate to wrap or tuck into a card.
  • Their year starts the day they redeem it, not when you purchase it. The gift code doesn't expire.
  • Gift subscriptions work for current Quiltacy members too. The gift adds a year to their account, and if they're already paying for a plan, the gift year begins when their current plan ends.
  • It's a one-time payment. Near the end of the year, we'll check in with your quilter about continuing their subscription. We'll also email you, in case you'd like to gift another year.
  • Their quilts stay safe either way. If your quilter decides not to continue, their Quiltacy account moves to the free plan, and every record is kept for a full year in case they come back. They can also export everything and restore it later.

Standard or Premium?

Standard holds up to 30 quilts and includes printable PDFs of single records and the quilter's complete archive. Premium has no limit on quilts and allows the user to share their creations via a Public Gallery link. If your gift recipient has been quilting for years, Premium gives them room to record all of it, plus an easy way to share their work with friends and family.
